Scanway Catering at the Four Points by Sheraton Halifax is currently searching for an experienced and professional banquet captain who is passionate about the food and beverage industry. The successful applicant is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service, and is an excellent team leader. The banquet captain will act as a liaison between the hotel and event planners/on-site convenors. This position best suits a patient, professional individual who can respond quickly to client requests. The successful candidate will be able to work in fast-paced environments and make decisions under pressure, always keeping the client experience as the top priority.
*Provide exceptional customer service at all times.
*Be the first point of contact for convenors (meet & greet) when they arrive on-site.
*Actively participate in weekly food & beverage meeting with hotel catering manager, Scanway catering manager, and culinary team.
*Lead or take part in pre-function briefings with banquet team.
*Take initiative to solve client problems or requests in a prompt and professional manner.
*Ensure all Scanway Catering food standards are adhered for all catering orders (inspect the food and ensure it is accurate with the client's event order).
*Ensure function rooms are set as per event order.
*Complete a detailed function report after each event.
*Lead the banquet team in a professional and positive way.
*Will be expected to work the events with the other team members (hands-on).
*All other reasonable requests that are made by catering manager or Scanway owners.
*Ensure Health & Safety standards are complied with at all times.
*Foster a team environment at all times with coworkers, culinary staff, hotel staff and service staff.
*Minimum of two years in a food & beverage supervisory role, in a similar environment.
*Previous banquet experience.
*High energy with exceptional organization and communication skills.
*Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
*Must posses a high degree of professionalism.
*Must be able to work independently and maintain a positive attitude within a very busy environment. *Time management and multi-tasking.
*Eye for detail.
*Computer skills required.
*Strong knowledge of food and beverage, passion for local food and wine a huge asset.
*Previous off-site banquet experience would be a huge asset.
*Flexibility, long hours, holidays and weekends are required.
*Must be physically able to perform the requirements of the positions such as lifting up to 40 lbs, bending, reaching, etc.
*Additional hospitality training (SuperHost, ServSafe, etc) considered an asset.
