Job Description:
 
Reporting to the General Manager and Director of Sales, as Catering Manager at the Hilton Garden Inn Halifax Airport  and the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Halifax Airport you will be expected to create exceptional experiences for our guests by delivering and maintaining the highest quality service standards in an extremely busy environment. The Catering Manager will be responsible for the all aspects of the delivery of our banquet services to clients.
 
  • Focus on consistent delivery of Hilton’s Vision, Mission, and Values by all team members
  • Promote hotel policies and procedures; support internal networks i.e. Health & Safety
  • Be informed on brand initiatives by reading IHG Bulletin and Hilton NOW
  • Attend management meetings
  • Work closely with all departments to ensure exceptional service
  • Maintain cleanliness standards
  • Manage all incoming catering requests
  • Book and manage meetings which include proposals, group agreements, banquet event orders for functions and payment details
  • Coordinate and conduct site inspections
  • General administrative duties: scheduling, ordering, inventories, beverage cost control, food cost control and labour cost control
  • Perform Banquet Capitan role, unless demand requires additional support
  • Ensure staff has been assigned to adequately cover all events
  • Ensure set-up, cleanup and reset of all utilized facilities takes place in a reasonable and timely manner
  • Ensure function sheets are complete with explicit instructions and are utilized to provide accurate and timely service
  • Hiring, training, coaching and disciplinary responsibilities
  • Ensure catering staff is provided with training, leadership, direction and motivation in accordance with organizational policy
  • Manage sales database (Sales & Events)
  • Greet all in-house Conveners and assist with needs
  • Responsible for posting event revenue, invoicing and gratuities
  • Prepare and email forecast projections for current month plus the following two (2) months to leadership team
  • Responsible for completing weekly activity report
  • Follow up on all events by sending out appropriate invoices and thank you letters
  • General office administration including, filing, monitoring and replacement of collateral, office supplies, fax/photocopier maintenance etc.
  • Support the sales team, as required
 
Job Requirements:
  • Professional attitude and appearance
  • Must be available 7 days a week including holidays
  • Must have inventory control experience
  • Must have a driver's license (min Class 5)
  • Responsible Beverage Service Certificate required
  • Minimum 2 years event/sales experience, preferably in a full service property
  • Superior written and spoken communications skills
  • Outstanding abilities to build and maintain relationships
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent time management with the ability to re-prioritize on a continual basis
  • Guest and Service oriented, pleasant personality, positive attitude and disposition
  • Experienced in hospitality service with Banquet service background
  • Extensive product knowledge food items and alcoholic beverages
  • Proven sales ability
  • Excellent Computer Skills and must be proficient with MS Office
  • Continually striving to create new contacts and clients through industry networking
  • Ability to work well individually or as part of a team on both a departmental and interdepartmental
  • Preference will be given to those who have professional training certification including WHMIS, CPR Emergency First Aid and Safe Food Handling Certification
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Proven experience with POS systems
  • Aptitude for working with auto visual equipment
  • Industry certifications
  • Wine knowledge
  • Must be a team player
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with all departments
