The Bras d’Or Yacht Club (BYC) is a premier facility ideally situated at the heart of Baddeck on the waterfront. Baddeck is the starting point for thousands of visitors who journey into Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail. With the recent upgrades to the wharf and upcoming beautification project of the waterfront, the timing is ideal to participate in the overall revitalization of Baddeck and the Bras d’Or Lake UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
The Bras d’Or Yacht Club is looking to hire a General Manager to be the ambassador of the club and lead its transformation, including: boating for both members and non-members, overall welcoming experience, food and beverage, entertainment, membership, community engagement, event planning and marketing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for creating an exceptional welcoming and customer service experience for members and non-members
- Support and expand existing boating program which includes seasonal lessons, mooring management, special events, regattas, kayak/paddleboard rentals, storage fees and develop a summer rental program for tourists and guests
- Engage with the community to build partnerships and collaborate in Village events
- Actively and frequently promote the BYC through multiple social media platforms and accounts
- Leverage our unique location to build a special event destination for weddings, family reunions, concerts
- Enhance and expand the food and beverage experience including collaboration with our third party operator, management of the upstairs bar operation including pricing and programming and addition of seasonal opportunities
- Review and enhance existing programming: music, trivia, races and work in collaboration with the Clubs committees to generate ideas to develop additional opportunities
- Review and implement cost control practices including inventory, purchasing, utilities, repair and maintenance expenses
- Prepare monthly financial review in collaboration with finance committee for presentation to the Board of Directors
- Identify capital expenditures and build business case for review by the Board of Directors
- Oversee renovations and facility improvements
- Proactively manage current membership and implement recruitment plans
- Spearhead recruitment, hiring and orientation of employees when required
- Promote and maintain a safe and healthy work environment, adhering to the legislation set out by Occupational Health and Safety and other Food Safety and related regulations, and implementing and maintaining effective operating procedures
- Attend meetings as required and obtain necessary certifications
- Any other duties as required
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- (5) years of food service experience and (3) years of management experience
- A certificate or diploma in a business or hospitality field preferred
- Experience in a sales or marketing capacity a definite asset
- Strong customer service skills, creativity, and innovation, as well as exceptional troubleshooting, conflict resolution, negotiation, and objection handling skills to ensure all guests requests are fulfilled
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively and lead a team in a diverse working environment
- Proactive, with great time-management, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision to ensure all duties are fulfilled in a timely and professional manner
- Excellent communication in English, both verbal and written
- Ability to work well under pressure, make informed decisions, multitask, and manage multiple priorities, while maintaining strong attention to detail and organization to ensure all guest’s and employees needs are fulfilled
- Demonstrated accountability, dependability and reliability to ensure a commitment to excellence
- Computer literate, including proficient knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and e-mail
- Experience with Point of Sale systems
Working Conditions:
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer
- Morning, evening, and weekend shifts, as well as overtime (as required)

- Lifting or moving up to 35lbs may be required
