We are looking for an experienced Director of Sales to join our team at the Hampton Inn & Homewood Suites Halifax.  
The Director of Sales is responsible for the overall efficient and effective leadership of the Sales department towards the achievement of the hotel’s overall financial objectives. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervising and working alongside the current sales team, maximizing revenues, managing expenses, encouraging up selling, and working to stay ahead of the competition. The Director of Sales assists the General Manager in setting and achieving both financial and service goals through genuine service and by exceeding guest and team expectations in the meeting/conference market. 
Responsibilities include:
  • Work to understand client needs, build organizational creditability and develop new revenue sources.
  • Encourage and motivate the team to contribute to sales goals and objectives.
  • Set goals and standards while finding solutions that are beneficial to guests and associates, while meeting deadlines that are decisive and achievement oriented.
  • Negotiate rates and contracts, keeping in mind company objectives and goals, while maintaining excellent relations with clients.
  • Plan, direct and evaluate all sales and marketing activities of the hotel including direct sales, catering sales, and room sales, E-marketing.
  • Work closely with the Revenue Manager to effectively yield rates for all group market segments based on need periods. Help with Optimal Business Mix for Hotel (Group). Aggressively direct & drive catering revenues as per budget, including analyzing competitive pricing to ensure correct positioning related to the hotel’s competition.
  • Manage and evaluate the financial operations of the sales & marketing initiatives to ensure cost effectiveness and optimum utilization of resources by preparing and presenting profit plans/budgets to approving authorities.
  • Monitor and control departmental expenditures as per budget.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate short-term tactics and long range marketing/sales plans and programs by focusing on customer needs and expectations.
  • Identify and research trends as they relate to the hospitality industry.
  • Develop strategies for forecasting and analyzing sales/marketing needs and developing effective product and service responses.
  • Provide direction, leadership, feedback and support to divisional associates by planning, supervising and evaluating work.
  • Participate in the development and execution of a strategic business plan by providing and analyzing current and projected sales data.
  • Identify and maximize opportunities to broaden the hotel’s market share by coordinating promotions such as sales blitzes, trade show representation and participating in industry events.
  • Implement and/or upkeep incentive programs to stimulate productivity and establish measurable standards of performance.
  • Receive and interpret market research data to identify trends that affect sales and maintain a tracking system to produce sales statistics and to identify opportunities for increasing revenue and market share.
  • Direct the development of effective public relations, advertising and promotional campaigns, in accordance with Manga Hotels and our brand partners, utilizing a variety of media resources.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of media campaigns and their effects on the hotel’s competitive position.
  • Promote and encourage inter-departmental cooperation and communication to improve customer service and overall satisfaction by coordinating inter-departmental sales activities and conducting sales meetings.
  • Review and implement pricing strategies for group and transient business segments.
  • Work closely with the General Manager to deliver budgeted sales strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Education & Qualifications:
  • University or college degree in Hotel Management/Business Administration.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a related senior role, preferably in the hotel environment.
  • Ability to develop and achieve goals and objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills – interpersonal, written and public relations.
  • Experience with accurate forecasting and analysis of results.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft & PMS systems)
  • A working knowledge of Delphi as a definite asset.
Working Conditions:
  • Normal office working conditions.
  • Lifting of supplies, material/collateral. From time to time the position will require long periods of standing.
  • Some weekend, evening or holiday hours will be required.
  • Intermittent business travel will be required.
