For the past thirty-eight years TayMac Tours has been sharing with visitors to the Maritimes our history, culture and hospitality. We are currently seeking individuals to fill the roll of step-on guides for our tours in the Halifax, South Shore, and Annapolis Valley areas.
A tour guide needs to know various routes to attractions, restaurants, venues. A tour guide will also need to know historical facts, dates, and folk lore, and be able to present the information in an informative yet engaging way.
Skills Required:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Public speaking and story telling
- Strong observation skills, attention to detail
- Propensity for history and the ability accurately retell details and events
- Ability to work well under pressure and follow assignments
- Flexibility to changing conditions like weather, traffic, or unforeseen delays
- Flexibility to work shifts including early mornings, holidays, and weekends
- Ability to lead groups of various sizes and ages, for a specific duration
- Act as a liaison between TayMac Tours and various tourism suppliers
- Customer focused
Responsibilities:
- Must be able to provide clear directions to visiting drivers while conducting the tour
- Liaise with group leaders prior to tour to discuss itinerary
- Based on tour outline, plan routing and schedule time for stops
- Provides factual commentary and local folk lore in an entertaining way
- Able to control group to keep on schedule
- Able to answer questions not related to tour, such as restaurant and shopping suggestions
Work Schedule
This is a seasonal position that begins in April and continues through to November. It is an irregular schedule.
Compensation:
- Set rate per tour, plus gratuities
- Uniform cost share
- Paid Training
